Canvas for Parents
Canvas was adopted for the 2015-16 school year to function as the VCS K-12 Learning Management System (LMS); essentially, Canvas is an online classroom in which students and faculty can interact, exchange ideas, and even conduct lessons and turn in assignments. To fulfill our mission to engage parents as partners in education, parents will have the ability to access Canvas beginning February 1, 2016.
Please note that our faculty and students are learning how to use Canvas together this year to enhance their classroom engagement. As such, you may notice some variance on the extent that a teacher or teachers are using the LMS. Please be patient as the faculty develop their pages to engage their classes in a different and meaningful way through Canvas.
Utilizing the above link to log into Canvas (and following the directions in the Canvas guide), parents can gain valuable information regarding the overarching vision of the class as well as the day-to-day operations. With this tool, parents can have meaningful conversations with their children on the content and progress of the class. Although Canvas is an important tool for learning, Skyward will still function as the official data warehouse for reporting class grades.
